Say hello to Figma widgets! 👋
On June 28th, Figma announced Widgets and designers around the world just couldn't get enough. It was a game-changer in the UX/UI world. Widgets in Figma are interactive objects that you can place on your screen and they perform a certain task or functionality. But unlike plugins in Figma that run only for a specific person, everyone can interact and play around with a widget.
All in all, widgets in Figma now help designers boost collaboration, and level up their designs.
Here are some new widgets you can play around with:
1. Navigate widget 🧭
Just like it sounds, the Navigate widget guides users through your design boards. Once your add this widget, you can enter the text for the navigation button and link this button to any destination on your board. Once you’ve set this, place your navigation button where you want. This is very helpful when presenting your designs to a stakeholder. For instance: If you have a lot of design pages, you can just click on your navigation button and it will jump to the linked destination—which avoids all that clutter while trying to find the next sequential page to your design.
2. Simple vote widget 🗳️
The perfect widget to ask your team which design they liked, especially when you’re A/B testing it. You can set parameters like how many times a user can vote and if the vote should be anonymous or hidden till shown later.
3. Photo Booth widget 📷
This is a really fun widget that lets you take selfies and it recreates that selfie using a virtual polaroid camera. It’s great for ice-breaking during a brainstorming session or for any creative idea that you may have.
In other news… you can now delete your Instagram account directly from your iOS app!
While previously you could only temporarily deactivate your account from within the iOS app, you can now permanently delete it as well. Before this feature, you had to go through the lengthy process of logging into your Instagram account on the web browser and then deleting it.
"We want to give people more ways to control their experience and time spent on Instagram. We've rolled out the option to delete your account in Settings on iOS, and you'll still have the option to temporarily disable your account before choosing to delete it." a Meta spokesperson said in a statement.
All Instagram videos will most likely be turned into reels!
On June 30, Instagram started testing the idea of having only one form of video - Reels! They began testing this by turning all video posts into reels for a few users. Creators part of this test will be notified that their video posts will be shared as reels, meaning that these newly-converted reels will appear in the Reels tab and the audio used can be repurposed by others for their own reels.
And Facebook begins testing NFTs
After Meta introduced NFTs on Instagram in May, they’re now testing the same on Facebook. This feature will allow users to showcase their NFTs on their Facebook profiles under the label “Digital collectibles”. During the test, they can also cross-post on both Instagram and Facebook. Currently, this feature has only been rolled out for select US creators.
Because it’s going to be a “worthy” week! (Pun intended)
